Debunking Rumors Of iPhone 5 And iPhone 4s Popularity Decline

With a new iPhone release imminent, the former notoriety and cache of the current iPhone 5 and, to some extent, its predecessor iPhone 4s are quickly eroding. These days it is virtually impossible to browse the web without encountering story after story about the anticipated launch of a new Apple iPhone, one predicated largely on reported disappointments associated with iPhone 5. Many of the latter speak to things such as weaker than expected sales, falling market share and popularity declines, particularly on the part of iPhone 5, even as rumors and scuttlebutt about Apple’s new iPhone 6 roll out on a weekly basis.

For instance, there are “leaked” photographs and “accidental slips” by Apple experts informing us all about its next amazing new masterpiece. The unfortunate fact of the matter is, that despite the flood of information being released about a prospective new iPhone as well as about problems with old iPhones, the benefits to users of all this technology flux remain equivocal and controversial: does one maintain their current platform, satisfied with existing technology or hungrily inhale Apple’s newest pricy little innovation?

On that note, the next iPhone release date is set for June 2014. Unfortunately, we are not quite sure whether this is a rumor or whether it is a semi-solid fact that we can grab hold of and in which we can place some of our trust. Fans around the globe are desperately clawing onto this tiny tidbit because there really is nothing else. We do find ourselves wondering, however, if Apple has made no attempt at creating a marketing campaign for the device, will it really be ready in just over a year?

One of the major hopes regarding a new iPhone centers on the gadget’s operating system. Fans are hoping for something that operates at higher speeds and with better capabilities than that which powered iPhone 5 or iPhone 4s. The recent appearance of iOS7 at this year’s WWDC seems to promise some great improvements for new model owners. The new iOS 7 design offers functionality without a lot of awkward loop-jumping. However, while clean cut and designed for optimum performance without all of the unnecessary extras that could slow a phone down, questions are raised about the differential ability for existing models to take full advantage of iOS 7 features. This is particularly true in examining performance of iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4s, both of which are equipped with older, slower processors. Of course, no one knows for sure when the release date of a new phone might be or how exactly it will differ from current iPhone models. Apple might need to push back the release date even further, as software development tends to take a fair while.

One particular innovation for which fans are hoping is an increased size of a new phone’s display. Of all the rumored iPhone features, this is one that sparks the most interest. So far, Android phones are ahead of the game with regards to screen size. Apple fans are hoping for a phone that exceeds the 4.5-inch limit imposed by Apple on its popular iPhone models to date. The new, larger retina screen will apparently have full HD capabilities and offer gesture control as well as eye scrolling. The ability to control your phone by simply looking at it seems to be a major step in the right direction. Fans are hoping for something a little more “sci-fi” than they currently have and this is definitely a good move.

Unfortunately, we still have no real information about a new phone’s design. Many are predicting a radical departure from earlier designs that defined the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 series, moving more toward a “phablet” experience: combining the best aspects of a smartphone and a tablet. Naturally, if Apple is to succeed in this concept, they will need to create a phone that is much larger than current standards.

  1. A 2011 report, also out of India, attributes the electrocution of a 25-year-old man to the cheap, Chinese-made smartphone knock-off that he answered while it was still charging.
